RECALL EXPANDED ON PET FOOD

BISMARCK – An Arkansas-based pet food manufacturer has expanded a voluntary recall of its products.

Simmons Pet Food, Inc.. Siloam Springs, AR, announced Monday, that it is recalling all 22-ounce canned pet food manufactured with “use by” dates between March 16, 2008 and June 6, 2008.

The products involved in the recall include:

  • Twin Pet with Beef Dog and Puppy Food UPC 071682241234
  • Twin Pet with Beef – Liver Flavor Dog and Puppy Food UPC 071682241333
  • American Fare Dinner with Turkey and Bacon UPC 07200019342 (Use By Date 04/05/08 only)
  • American Fare Chunky Dinner with Beef and Bacon UPC 07200019344 (Use By Date 04/05/08 only)
  • American Fare Chunky Dinner with Beef UPC 07200019341 (Use By Date 04/05/08 only)
  • American Fare Country Stew with Beef UPC 07200019343 (Use By Date 04/05/08 only)
  • Strongheart Beef Flavor Dog Food UPC 071682641232
  • Ol’ Roy Beef Flavor  UPC 0068113189763 and UPC  072562350237

American Fare products are distributed by K-Mart; Ol’ Roy products are sold through Wal-Mart, and Twin Pet and Strongheart products are distributed through Allied Foods. Earlier, the recall had affected only the products sold through Wal-Mart.

Simmons said the recall was based on the discovery of random flaking of the inside coating of the cans.

Consumers may return the products to the store where they were purchased to obtain a refund. More information is available from Simmons at (800) 232-9880. A listing of the recalled pet foods can be found at the North Dakota Department of Agriculture website, www.agdepartment.com, click on “Hot Topics.”

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture registers all pet foods sold in the state.
