ND Department of Agriculture Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 25, 2008 PROJECT SAFE SEND COLLECTIONS SLATED AT 16 SITES BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson is urging all North Dakotans with unusable pesticides to bring them to a Project Safe Send collection site in July. "We are conducting 16 collections across the state, so it should be easy for everyone to get rid of their unusable pesticides safely and at no charge,” Johnson said. “Now is the time to go through your barns, sheds, garages and storage areas for unusable pesticides." All collection sites are at North Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance facilities, except the collection in West Fargo, which will be held at the county highway shop. The collections are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (local time) at the following dates and sites.
More information about Project Safe Send, including directions to collection sites, is available on the North Dakota Department of Agriculture website, www.agdepartment.com (click on “Hot Topics”). Authorized by the North Dakota Legislature, Project Safe Send is funded through the fees paid by pesticide manufacturers to register their products in the state. More than more than 2 million pounds of waste pesticides have been collected through Project Safe Send, since 1992. -30- MEDIA: For more information, please call Ted Quanrud at (701) 328-2233 or tquanrud@nd.gov or Patrice Lahlum at (701) 239-7210 or plahlum@nd.gov.
