ND Department of Agriculture Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JUNE 30, 2008 ORGANIC FARM TOUR SLATED MEDINA – An organic farm tour, scheduled July 10, will give producers an opportunity to learn more about organic farming methods and production. “We’ve designed the field day to answer the most common questions farmers have about organic production,” said Britt Jacobson, project coordinator for Foundation for Agricultural & Rural Resource Management & Sustainability (FARRMS). “Participants will see how a certified organic farm operates, and they will meet with experienced organic farmers.” The tour includes a visit to a local organic farm and afternoon workshops covering organic inspections, organic weed management, pasture health, organic crop rotations and soil health. A workshop for agricultural professionals and educators on available organic education materials is also scheduled. The tour day begins at 9 a.m. at the Tappen City Hall, 118 N. Main St. A lunch of local and organic foods will be served at noon. The field day is funded by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and is organized by FAARMS and the Mercer County Extension Office. Pre-registration is encouraged. The fee is $10 and includes materials, lunch and refreshments.
