ND Department of Agriculture Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 26, 2009 CAPITOL RESTAURANT TO FEATURE NORTH DAKOTA FOODS BISMARCK – Legislators, lobbyists, state government employees and visitors will have an opportunity to support local producers and food companies, Wednesday, March 4, when the “Going Local North Dakota” initiative comes to the State Capitol. “All the entrees in the Aviands Capitol Café will be based on local food products from North Dakota companies,” said Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson. “Local foods are fresher and taste good too. Buying local foods also boosts the economics of small family farms.” Johnson said Aviands will highlight North Dakota food products throughout the year, especially during the 2009 farmers market season. The North Dakota Department of Agriculture started the Going Local North Dakota campaign last fall to increase awareness of food origin and to encourage people to make better choices about what they are eating. -30- MEDIA: For more information, please call Ted Quanrud at (701) 328-2233 or tquanrud@nd.gov or Patrice Lahlum at (701) 239-7210 or plahlum@nd.gov.
