ND Department of Agriculture Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 17, 2009 MEETING SLATED IN MINOT TO PROMOTE LOCAL FOODS BISMARCK – A special meeting to promote local foods is scheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, March 23, at the North Central Research Extension Center, 5400 Highway 83 South, Minot. “We’re looking for folks who are interested in local foods or working with farmers markets, community gardens, school gardens and similar projects,” said Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson. “It will be an opportunity for producers, processors and consumers to network and to learn more about the local foods movement and what can be done to promote it.” Johnson said residents of Ward, Bottineau, McHenry, McLean, Mountrail, and Burke counties are especially invited to attend. “A local foods supper of chili and baked potatoes will be served at a nominal cost,” Johnson said. “There is no pre-registration.” Persons planning to take part in the meal are asked to RSVP by contacting Sue Balcom at the North Dakota Department of Agriculture at (701) 328-4763 or suebalcom@nd.gov. -30- MEDIA: For more information, please call Ted Quanrud at (701) 328-2233 or tquanrud@nd.gov or Patrice Lahlum at (701) 239-7210 or plahlum@nd.gov.
