FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 26, 2009

INFORMATION NEEDED FROM LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS

BISMARCK – State officials are urging livestock producers to immediately report any losses or cases of animal endangerment to their local North Dakota State University Extension agents.

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture, the State Board of Animal Health and the Extension Service have received reports of dead, missing and stranded livestock, as a result of the flooding.

Extension agents are compiling information from producers to help the state veterinarian’s office and other agencies devise a plan to respond to the needs within the state.

The extension agents will be asking producers the following:

  • Number and species of affected animals?
  • Are animals stranded?
  • Does the producer need assistance in handling the carcasses?
  • Does the producer have feed for them?
  • Can the producer get the feed to them?

Producers should also keep detailed records of losses and additional expenses caused by the flooding.
