PROJECT SAFE SEND PESTICIDE COLLECTIONS SLATED AT 16 SITES

BISMARCK – North Dakota’s annual collection of unusable pesticides, Project Safe Send, will be conducted at 16 locations in July.

"Because of this year’s spring flooding, we expect more damaged and unusable pesticides to be brought into Project Safe Send," said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “Now is the time to check your barns, sheds, garages and storage areas for unusable pesticides and especially for water-damaged pesticides.”

Pesticides include herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and rodenticides.

Goehring said that with 16 collection sites across the state, it should be easy for everyone to participate in Project Safe Send.

“Project Safe Send is for everyone – farmers, ranchers, homeowners, applicators and dealers,” Goehring said. “It’s your opportunity to get rid of your unusable and damaged pesticides safely and at no charge.”

Goehring said containment bags for transporting damaged pesticide containers to a Project Safe Send collection site are available from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture at (800) 242-7535.

The collections are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (local time) at the following dates and locations. All collection sites are at North Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance facilities.

CASSELTON--15482 37th St SE; take I-94 Exit 331, go north on ND 18, take frontage road west about ¾ mile.

Wednesday, July 8

HILLSBORO--590 6th St NW; take I-29 exit 104 at Hillsboro, east ½ block, 1/3 of a mile north on 6th St NW.

Thursday, July 9

GRAND FORKS--1951 N. Washington St, from I-29 take Gateway exit, go east. to Hwy 81 (Washington St), go north 1 mile.

Friday, July 10

DRAYTON--just east of I-29 interchange on ND Highway 66, (north side of the road).

Monday, July 13

DEVILS LAKE--1905 Schwan Ave NW; 2½ miles west of Devils Lake Industrial Park, south side of US 2.

Tuesday, July 14

VALLEY CITY--1524 8th Ave SW, south of I-94 at Exit 292.

BOTTINEAU--½ mile east of Bottineau on Highway 5, 1½ miles north on Lake Metigoshe Road (east side of the road).

EDGELEY--2 mi. north of Jct. 281 & 13, west side of Hwy 281.

MINOT--from the intersection of Highways 83 and 2, go east about 3 miles, DOT is on the east side of Hwy 2, just north of the Gooseneck Implement (John Deere dealership).

Thursday, July 16

WYNDMERE--from the junction of Highways 13 and 18, go 2 ½ miles north on Hwy 18 (west side of road).

WILLISTON--605 Dakota Parkway W; on Bypass US 2 and US 85 (across from the Kum & Go gas station).

Friday, July 17

DICKINSON--1700 3rd Ave W STE 101; on east side of ND 22, ½ mile north of the Junction of I-94 and ND Hwy 22.

Monday, July 20

BEULAH--205 HWY 49 S; take I-94 to exit 110, then go 30 miles north on ND 49 to the south side of Beulah. NDDOT is west of ND 49, and just south of the RR tracks.

Tuesday, July 21

FLASHER--from ND 21, on the west edge of the city of Flasher, turn north on Morton County road 84, go one block north (DOT is on the east side of the road).

Wednesday, July 22

McCLUSKY--west side of city, at intersection of ND 200 and First Street.

Thursday, July 23

NAPOLEON--59 Broadway; take I-94 Exit 208, proceed south on ND Hwy 3; ¼ mile south of the city (east side of road).

Authorized by the North Dakota Legislature, Project Safe Send is funded through the fees paid by pesticide manufacturers to register their products in North Dakota.
Since 1992, more than 2.3 million pounds of waste pesticides have been collected through Project Safe Send.
