Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said that with 16 collection sites across the state, it should be easy for everyone to participate in Project Safe Send. “Project Safe Send is for farmers, ranchers, homeowners, applicators and dealers, anyone with unusable pesticides,” Goehring said. “It’s your opportunity to get rid of these hazardous chemicals safely and at no charge.” Pesticides include herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and rodenticides. The collections, which will be conducted by Veolia Environmental Services, are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (local time) at the following dates and locations. All collection sites are at North Dakota Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance facilities.
More information about Project Safe Send can be found on NDDA’s website, www.agdepartment.com. Authorized by the North Dakota Legislature, Project Safe Send is funded through the fees paid by pesticide manufacturers to register their products in North Dakota. Since 1992, more than 2.3 million pounds of waste pesticides have been collected through Project Safe Send. -30- MEDIA: For more information, please call Ted Quanrud at (701) 328-2233 or tquanrud@nd.gov or Patrice Lahlum at (701) 239-7210 or plahlum@nd.gov.
