FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 8, 2009

FARMERS MARKET SLATED ON STATE CAPITOL GROUNDS

BISMARCK – The fifth annual Farmers Market Day at the Capitol will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, at the parking loop on the south side of the State Capitol.

“You can buy your lunch at the Capitol Café or bring your own and then enjoy it while listening to live music on the Capitol grounds,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “Then you can shop the farmers market for fresh, locally-grown produce and other foods to take home for supper.”

A’viands Capitol Café will offer a “green bag lunch” that includes a “Bahama Mama” turkey wrap or sauteed vegetable wrap, a 12-ounce bottle of water, and oat and dried fruit bar, an apple or orange and a bag of raisins or trail mix. The number of green bag lunches is limited to 250. The first 100 people buying the lunch will receive a free, re-usable market shopping bag from North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association.

Local musician Shawn Oban will perform.

The public event is sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, the Council of State Employees, the North Dakota Cancer Coalition and A’viands.
