ND Department of Agriculture Press ReleasesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 12, 2010 GOEHRING HONORS TWO FOR WEED CONTROL WORK MANDAN – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has presented the 2010 Weed Control Partners Awards to Diane Allmendinger, Dodge, and Ron Manson, Sanborn. Allmendinger is weed officer for Stark and Dunn counties; Manson is Stutsman County weed officer. “Diane and Ron have effectively utilized North Dakota Department of Agriculture programs to improve weed control efforts in their jurisdictions, especially in using new technology,” Goehring said. “They have established and continue to maintain biological control sites, and to share the resources from those sites with land managers and other weed control officials.” Goehring presented the awards Tuesday, during the 2010 Commissioner’s Weed Forum in Mandan. He said both Manson and Allmendinger help the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) “test drive” new technology, such as the global positioning system devices, and that both are active in the North Dakota Weed Control Association. Both were co-hosts for NDDA’s Canada thistle workshops in 2009. Manson attended the University of North Dakota, majoring in wildlife management. He has been with the Stutsman County Weed Board since 1996, and was named weed officer in 2007. A Killdeer native, Allmendinger has served as Stark County weed officer since 2003 and as Dunn County weed officer since 1999. -30- MEDIA: For more information or for pictures of the award presentation in jpeg format, please contact Ted Quanrud at (701) 328-2233 or tquanrud@nd.gov.
