Public Comments Sought on the The Department is seeking public comment on its proposed North Dakota Endangered Species Protection Plan prior to the plan’s submission to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A draft of the plan can be found below. If approved, the plan would give North Dakota a voice in the administration of the federal endangered species program in the state. The North Dakota Endangered Species Protection Plan for Pesticides is our seat at the table as the Environmental Protection Agency develops and implements possible restrictions on pesticide usage to better protect threatened and endangered species. The comment period is not required by law, but we want to give all interested persons and organizations – farmers, ranchers, environmentalists, pesticides dealers and applicators and others – the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the program and to tell us how it can be improved. The new program makes the Department of Agriculture the principal source of information and recommendations for EPA to use as the Agency considers changes to pesticide labeling and the establishment of county bulletins. Comments must be received by June 1, 2008. Please send comments to: Endangered Species Program, North Dakota Department of Agriculture, 600 E. Boulevard Ave., Dept. 602, Bismarck, ND; 58505-0020; fax: (701) 328-4567or email: jnorr@nd.gov Proposed ND State Plan for Endangered Species Protection Plan
