New Invasive Plants
Because of the importance of new weeds that are highly invasive, potentially becoming a threat to the state's agriculture interests, the department had allocated funds for new invasive weeds. Since in many cases the acreage is small, the department has encouraged weed boards to eradicate them where possible. There are no minimum mill-levy requirements for weed board participation. Each weed board is assigned an allocation; compensation is made for surveying costs, and for expenditures using herbicide or mechanical means of control at a 80% rate. Those weeds which qualify for cost-sharing include Black henbane; Common Tansy; Common Teasel; Dalmation toadflax; Diffuse knapweed; Dyer's Woad; Giant Hogweed; Hoary cress; Hounds tongue; Iberian and Purple Starthistle; Knotweed, Giant, Japanese and Himalayan; Meadow knapweed; Musk thistle; Purple loosestrife; Russian knapweed; St. Johnswort; Sericea Lespedeza; Scotch thistle; Spotted knapweed; Yellow starthistle; and Yellow toadflax.
