Organic Certification Cost Share
General Information

The 2008 Farm Bill provided funding for the USDA AMS National Organic Certification Cost Share Program.  USDA AMS enters into agreements with state departments of agriculture to administer the program within each department’s state.

Cost share reimbursements must be made for certification costs incurred during specific federal fiscal years. Therefore, to minimize confusion and avoid commingling of applications for different fiscal years, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) is separating the application periods for federal fiscal years 2008 and 2009 as outlined below.  Please read the summaries below for the 2008 and 2009 fiscal year programs and then go to the program guidelines for instructions to apply for the 2008 or 2009 cost share program.

2008 North Dakota National Organic Certification Cost Share Program

NDDA is accepting applications for the 2007-2008 National Organic Cost Share Program through September 30, 2009.  However, approved applications will not be processed for payment until funding approval is received from the USDA AMS National Organic Program (the funding agreement for the 2008 program is still pending).

Organic producers, processors and handlers are eligible to apply for cost share assistance provided:

  • They received initial or continuation/renewal of certification to USDA National Organic Program standards between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008, and
  • The certified operation is located in North Dakota.

Please see the program guidelines for complete application instructions and required application documents.  Program information, guidelines, and application forms are available on the NDDA website at www.agdepartment.com or ND Organic Farming website at www.ndorganics.nd.gov by clicking on Organic Certification Cost Share.
